you get easily irritated, you are too hot,...
Do you get irritated easily? Is your skin hyper-reactive? Do you experience burning sensations, inflammations or hot flushes…? Pitta (the fire element) has built up over the summer! Restore your balance without delay!
To prevent imbalances from building up, Ayurveda recommends a gentle detox at the start of each new season. For example, by sticking to a light, mostly liquid diet for three days and avoiding acidic, spicy and salty foods, which increase Pitta.
Drink plenty of unsweetened drinks. If you like the taste, add a teaspoon of rose water – it’s very refreshing!
Include vegetables and fruits that reduce Pitta: cucumber, melons, leafy greens, mint tea, coriander leaves…
Avoid strong spices and highly acidic foods such as wine and certain fruits, as well as very fatty, very sweet and very salty foods, which increase Pitta and Kapha. These will promote inflammation.
Seek out situations that soothe you… getting nervous increases Pitta even more!!
If you have heavy or swollen legs, or if you’re struggling to bring your temperature down, try taking a bath or a foot bath. These often give you a ‘boost’ by stimulating circulation. You can add 2–3 drops of essential oils such as cypress or juniper to your foot bath, provided your skin isn’t too sensitive. Dilute the oil in a little milk, cream or honey to prevent it from settling on your skin in too concentrated a form.
